YCF hosted the Yolo County Philanthropy Day Awards reception on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the Erwin Meier Administration Building in Woodland.  Over 80 people attended the festive wine and cheese celebration. Yolo County Philanthropy Day Awards recognize the impact philanthropy has on Yolo County and the role individuals, who donate their money and time, play in enriching their community.  YCF honored Maggie Burns and Roy Bellhorn, and the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation’s Community Fund.  Burns and her husband Roy Bellhorn are members of the YCF Founders Circle and established the Wide Wide World Fund for local scholarships and the Winters Participation Art Fund. Tribal Council President Marshall McKay accepted for the Yocha Dehe Wintun Tribe.  The Tribe’s community fund has provided nearly $18 million in financial support to the communities of Yolo and Sacramento County. The Yocha Dehe Community Fund was one of the first to be established by a Native American tribe in California.  The following Yolo County non-profit organizations also presented Philanthropy Day awards at the YCF-hosted event:

  • Yolo Family Service Agency presented awards to Charles and Nancy Mack for long-time financial support and continuous years of service to YFSA, and to Lynn Clark for giving countless hours maintaining and updating the computers and data system for YFSA.
  • Pence Gallery honored board members Nancy and Bill Roe.  Bill coordinated the building of Pence Gallery, contributing time and financial support.  Nancy has coordinated the Gallery Garden Tour for 4 years, and has been an instrumental part of the Pence's successful fundraising events.
  • YoloArts recognized the Teichert Foundation, which since 1991 has directed philanthropic support to communities where A.Teichert & Sons is located.  Fred Teichert accepted the award.
  • Communicare Health Centers honored Dr. Bob Hansen and his late wife Suzanne for their long-time gifts of support and service to Communicare.
  • Ark Preschool, a tuition-free school for the children of local homeless and low-income families, recognized five honorees: Ardith Allread and Woodland United Methodist Church for housing the school rent free; Josie Enriquez and Yolo Family Resource Center for ensuring that as many children as possible receive a preschool education; Dr. James Coyle of the Pfund Family Foundation for their on-going financial contribution toward operating costs; Breault Asphalt Maintenance for material contributions, including a tricycle path and air conditioning; and Regan Overholt of First 5 Yolo for her support to a program that fosters preschoolers' social and emotional competency.
  • Yolo Wayfarer Center recognized Jack Galart for providing spiritual support and encouragement to guests at Walter’s House; Jim and Jackie Scott and their grandsons, Austin and Andrew, for preparing evening meals every Thursday with items donated by local grocers; and COSTCO for donations that total more than 27,000 pounds of food items already this year.
